La-Z-Boy Expands 3D Cloud Rendering Across Its Digital Storefronts

La-Z-Boy Incorporated said on July 15, 2026 that it is expanding its use of 3D Cloud's API-based rendering technology across its digital shopping and design channels, a move the furniture maker says will eventually generate on-demand imagery for every product and configuration it offers (PRNewswire, 2026).

The company did not disclose a dollar figure for the expansion. It said the system, once fully scaled over the next several years, is expected to produce 16 million individual renders on demand, covering every combination of frame, fabric, leather and finish across its catalog (PRNewswire, 2026).

What changed

3D Cloud, the vendor formerly known as Marxent, has worked with La-Z-Boy since 2019, when the retailer first adopted virtual 3D shopping tools. In 2023, the company added 3D product configuration and augmented reality imaging on top of that base (Chain Store Age, 2026). The announcement this month is a further expansion of that same API-based system, not a new vendor relationship.

"The expansion of 3D Cloud's upgraded, new API-based technology into our business processes means that we can show every product and configuration exactly as it will be built, replacing the time-intensive process of manual rendering production," said Gerardo Ornelas, La-Z-Boy's VP of Enterprise Digital Transformation (PRNewswire, 2026).

That last point is the operational core of the story. Previously, product photography and rendering for each fabric or finish option had to be produced manually, a process that does not scale well against a catalog with millions of possible combinations. Generating renders programmatically through an API removes that bottleneck.

Who is affected

The rollout applies across La-Z-Boy's retail and wholesale channels, meaning both its own e-commerce and design tools and the imagery it supplies to furniture retail partners will draw from the same rendering system (Chain Store Age, 2026). Retail Dive's reporting on the announcement notes the change is meant to keep product imagery current and consistent across every channel where La-Z-Boy sells, rather than requiring separate photo shoots or renders per outlet (Retail Dive, 2026).

Shoppers browsing La-Z-Boy's customization tools should see the practical result: faster-loading, more accurate previews of a chosen fabric or configuration, rather than a placeholder image or a limited set of pre-rendered options.

What happens next

La-Z-Boy said it plans to extend the same underlying platform into other functions, including room scanning and additional AI-driven design tools, though it gave no timeline for those additions (Chain Store Age, 2026). The company has not said when the system will reach its full 16-million-render target, only that the scale-up is expected to play out "over the next few years" (PRNewswire, 2026).

No pricing, contract length, or cost detail for the expanded 3D Cloud agreement has been made public.
