What happened
Atlantic Health and K Health announced Atlantic Health PatientGPT and an accompanying Virtual Primary Care service on August 11, 2026, according to a press release from Atlantic Health (Atlantic Health System, 2026). The tool is embedded directly in Atlantic Health's Epic MyChart portal, where it draws on a patient's own medical record, including active medications, chronic conditions and prior visit history, to answer health questions in context rather than returning generic search results, Atlantic Health said.
When a patient's question points to something that needs clinical attention, PatientGPT can route them to a same-day, same-hour appointment with an Atlantic Health Virtual Primary Care physician. The conversation history and symptom details a patient shares with the AI carry over into that visit, so the physician sees the intake background without the patient repeating it, per the companies' announcement.
"The best use of AI in healthcare makes care more human, not less," Atlantic Health President and CEO Saad Ehtisham said in the release, as reported by Becker's Hospital Review. "Technology should strengthen the connection between patients and clinicians, reduce barriers to care, and help people get the right care at the right time" (Becker's Hospital Review, 2026).
The platform launched in beta and will roll out gradually across New Jersey over the coming months, Atlantic Health said. The health system operates eight hospitals and more than 550 sites of care across 14 counties, serving a regional population of about 7.5 million people (Atlantic Health System, 2026).
K Health, the New York-based clinical AI company behind PatientGPT, says the tool does not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatment or operate on its own, and is designed to hand off to a human clinician whenever a case involves ambiguity or risk. That description comes from the company and has not been independently verified for this post; it is reported here as K Health's own characterization of the product's design, not as a confirmed clinical outcome.
Who is affected
Atlantic Health is the third health system to deploy PatientGPT. Hartford HealthCare launched the tool with K Health in March 2026, and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine) followed in May 2026 with a broader, multi-year rollout of K Health clinical AI agents across its electronic health record, according to Fierce Healthcare's coverage of both launches (Fierce Healthcare, 2026). K Health also lists Cedars-Sinai and Hackensack Meridian Health among its health system partners.
For Atlantic Health patients, the immediate effect is a new entry point in MyChart: a chat interface that can answer questions grounded in their own chart and, where appropriate, book a virtual visit the same day. Patients who prefer not to use the tool are not required to, and the beta rollout means not everyone in the system's coverage area will see it at once.
What affected parties should know
The tool is scoped to information and triage, not diagnosis or prescribing, per K Health's own description of the product. Anyone using PatientGPT with symptoms that concern them should still expect the platform to direct them toward a clinician rather than a self-contained answer, based on how the companies describe its design. Nothing in the companies' materials claims the tool has been validated for accuracy or safety in an independent clinical trial, and this post makes no claim that it has.
What happens next
Atlantic Health has not published a timeline for full rollout beyond "the coming months," and neither company has released usage or outcome data since the August 11 launch. K Health's pattern with Hartford HealthCare and Penn Medicine suggests other regional health systems could be candidates for similar partnerships, though none has been announced.
